Perched above Two California Plaza, 750 feet above ground level, this Library enjoys uninterrupted 360 degree views of Los Angeles. Providing the perfect place to get away from the bustle of the city below, this series of structures provides a tranquil sanctuary to read a book. The delicate design of the library gently sways with the high velocity of air currents at 750 feet, oscillating like a wind mill; slow enough so as not to disturb the occupants as they enjoy views to the surrounding. Reminiscent of clouds in the sky, opening and closing to let sunlight through, the carefully carved apertures of the building reduce its weight and massing, while visually maximizing the depth of the structure. Built in three stages, with each building considered one stage, bridges connect the wings of the library together.
